Periodontal Maintenance

Smile Artist Dentistry in Houston offers many treatment options for periodontal disease, more commonly known as gum disease.  A staggering number of Americans are afflicted with gum disease, many practice good oral hygiene habits. If the problem goes untreated, it can lead to tooth loss or other serious health issues. At our dental office in Houston, we use a variety of innovative dental techniques to halt the progression of periodontal disease and reduce the damaging effects.

The beginning stage of gum disease is gingivitis. The symptoms are red, swollen or bleeding gums. If the signs of gum disease are ignored, major health problems can develop, such as stroke or heart disease. Some people don’t experience any symptoms, this is one reason why it is so important to visit our Smile Artist Dentistry in Houston on a yearly basis.

Sometimes there are no symptoms of gum disease, so it’s always best to visit the dentist regularly. Additional symptoms of periodontal disease include:

  • Loose teeth
  • Receding gums
  • Gum sensitivity
  • Tooth and/or bone loss

At Smile Artist Dentistry of Houston, we provide the following treatment solutions:

Scaling & planing: This deep cleaning treatment method involves the non-surgical removal of plaque and tartar well below the gum line. After all of the plaque and tartar are eliminated, your dentist will smooth the root of the tooth to reduce the risk of future buildup.  Afterwards, a high-tech laser is used to treat the sensitive tissue and securely attach the gums to the teeth. This is a comfortable, quick healing, and virtually pain-free treatment.

Gingivectomy: For serious, advanced cases of gum disease periodontal surgery may be the only solution. There is no cure for gingivitis, but surgery can repair and restore tissue and bone damage. Our talented Houston dentists can prevent the situation from worsening.
